Episode 54 – Star Trek

In this episode, Liz and Heather welcome back Kitty into the studio to talk all about Star Trek! It’s been pretty much since the beginning of the podcast since we talked Trek (and that was in the Star Wars vs. Star Trek episode, if you missed it.), so we felt it was time to get to it!

Star Trek

Star Trek: Past, Present, and Beyond

All three of us watched a lot of these growing up over the years, so we really wanted to get into the shows vs. the movies vs. the reboot movies. Random aside: Netflix is completely worth buying. While their content may be down, it is super cheap and has a great catalog of both shows and movies to watch whenever you want. Another random aside – Dancing with the Stars is delightful.

Space whores, aliens in mini skirts, Tribbles, and more – all about the original series. We all loved Next Generation. We talk about the different series and each of the movies for both the original cast and next gen. We then move into the reboots – why did they decide to reboot the original series versus creating a new crew like the previous incarnations did over the years?

Klingon Hug Dungeons.

Star Trek

The original series had a pretty tight-knit crew, as opposed to a much larger work-family-life like the following series. Deep Space Nine was basically a space soap opera. Netflix is awesome for getting on board with these shows if you haven’t seen them (or haven’t seen them in years) since you can sit down and watch from start to finish without waiting. Where were we before binge watching??

"Shut your math hole!"

Bitch of the Week – People who put their dogs/children/cars as their avatars or profile pictures on Facebook. People are hiding their real selves out of insecurity or to be giant online douchebags. Just put your pictures on there and get over yourself.

Recommendations (as seen on our Pinterest page):

  • Heather: (RSS feed) – Learn about awesome females whom you may never have heard of and what they are doing. (Also check out Mighty Girls on Facebook)
  • Liz: Shadows of the Empire (book) by Steve Perry – a book set between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. It’s a great insight into the training of Luke Skywalker, and into the mind of Darth Vader.
