Episode 73 – Dungeons and Dragons for Beginners

In this episode, Liz and Heather sit down with friends to talk about Dungeons and Dragons for beginners! We have with us Jessica (previously on our Cosplay and Geek Crush episodes) and Mandy from the podcast CasterQuest! This roundtable discussion consists of all newbies to the game of D&D and a little bit of information about the game’s history, myths and stereotypes, and pre-game talk for our new 5th edition campaign.

This episode is really our pre-game discussion before we mount our first campaign. Liz has played a handful of times, Heather hasn’t ever played, Jessica and Mandy have at least looked at a game before. We talk about why (or why not) someone would want to be the DM versus a player. We also talk about some of the things that may have kept us from playing this game before now.

We are playing the D&D 5th Edition Starter Set. This is a pre-generated game that includes the story, the character sheets, and even dice, where anyone can pick it up and learn to play. Operaman is serving as our DM for our game and Producer Craig is playing with us as well. We may be recording the game-play episodes as we go, but we will see how things progress. We will at the very least have a follow up episode after we complete the starter set game.

Liz explains the history of D&D that she got off this video here…

and a brief bit of info about how to play 5th edition with this video here…

The second video series is pretty awesome and breaks things down so they are much easier to understand than trying to read or explain how to play the game.

Also, to hear about stereotypes of D&D, check out this video…

So stay tuned for our upcoming D&D game episodes because they are sure to be incredibly entertaining!
