In this episode, Liz and Heather discuss mainstreaming nerd culture across generations. Has nerdom become more acceptable in mainstream society? Are nerds the new hipsters or exclusive club? Will Liz and Heather ever choose to clean their respective homes if they can get away with it? Tune in to this week’s episode to find out!
Mainstreaming Nerd Culture Across Generations
Heather has returned from her adventures with several comic cons in California and has much to say about them, compared to our experiences with Comicpalooza. Both are looking forward to the upcoming Fandemic Tour in Houston, so hopefully Liz will be able to attend and report.
Liz and Heather debate whether or not NERD has actually gone mainstream, or if it is specific to certain fandoms/genres. They also discuss how this has changed over the generations and some of the potential jumping off points.
We also talk quite a lot about cleaning (or not), and other off-the-rails topics, as usual.

Did you listen to our 100th episode live at Comicpalooza with Cards Against Humanity?? It was pretty awesome! We have loved being part of your earholes for over 3 1/2 years and are looking forward to the future! (LISTEN HERE)
Our amazing friend Seale was on hand during this celebratory event to video, and it is now available on the Nerdy Bitches YouTube channel! You can also watch the video below.

We want to send a heartfelt thank you out to all of the people who made this episode and video happen! First, thank you to Producer Craig for always making sure we sound good, and for helping to host the game and keep things moving along! Second, thank you to Paul (aka Operaman) for always being the show’s #1 fan and supporter, and also for taking Liz’s niece out of the room so she wouldn’t be scarred for life!
Next, we of course want to take the ever talented Seale Adams for volunteering his time and abilities to take amazing video, both of this show and our Women in Podcasting panel. You are completely awesome!!
To our Houston-area podcast friends at Cult 45, Dogfin Studios, and Carla Sue Houston for being there to support us, as always! You guys are the best!
And finally, thank you to ALL of the strangers who came out to play the game with us and for being awesome participants! We couldn’t have done it without you! We were in a tough timeslot, and up against the Star Trek Q&A, so having a packed room was amazing!
In this episode, Heather is out on assignment, enjoying all of the awesome things California fan conventions offer, so Liz was joined by special guest host Mandy to read some erotic fan fiction! Mandy is the host of CasterQuest, an awesome podcast that covers Patrick Rothfuss’ Kingkiller Chronicles, Game of Thrones, and does an annual 4th of July fan fiction episode!! We decided to take the plunge into this entertaining and disturbing world!
Trigger Warning: This episode contains erotica and some disturbing mental imagery and is 100% not safe for work or children. You have been warned…
Disclaimer: None of the stories included belong to us, thankfully. We are also not shaming anyone for what they write. Please continue with your amazing stories! We will do our very best to let you know where you can find these gems for yourself! Most of our stories came from FanFiction.net, fyi. Please also note we are day drinking throughout this episode. Sometimes straight from the bottle.
56:47: Don’t Worry, Frodo. We’ll Get the Chance by Twisted Angel 08. Seriously erotic, hobbit-on-hobbit action. In this story, we are actually only covering Chapter 2: A Mouthful of Frodo. You can read the entire story at the link below. We also end up bringing OperaMan in for part of this story, just so we can watch his face while we read. It was well worth it. Hey there! We know that you heard us talk about the Women in Podcasting panel we hosted at Comicpalooza this year, but we didn’t use the audio for an actual podcast episode. That is because our amazing friend Seale Adams showed up to video the whole thing and put together a really slick piece of work! It is available on our Nerdy Bitches YouTube Page. We are also embedding the video here, but encourage you to go give it a thumbs up and subscribe to our page! We are looking to add even more content going forward!
In this episode, we briefly try to do our Comicpalooza 2018 Wrap Up, and fail miserably at the “brief” part! There was SO much going on, and we just couldn’t help ourselves!! So listen to us gush about the amazing time we had, all of our awesome panels, our friends, and did we mention the celebrities??
Comicpalooza 2018 Wrap Up
We not-so-briefly go through each day of the convention and talk about the awesome panels we attended, the panels we hosted, and how much fun it was to finally see each other again since Heather moved away!
There are probably some really long tangents about Harry Potter meet-ups and other things, but the conversation was fun, so we left them in.
Thursday – Badge pick up, reuniting with our friends, and grabbing lunch
Friday – Matinee Hereos panel, Peter Mayhew (moderated by Brandon from Cult 45), Liz gushing about TALKING to Peter Mayhew, and a lot on our trivia show down game show with Cult 45 podcast. The live stream for that show is available here.
After recording with Shasie, Heather made it to the Cult 45 Podcast live show. Liz was late and missed it since the room was PACKED! As a small consolation, she did get to say hello to (and get a wave and hello in return from) Tom Holland. After that, we had our LIVE show, which you can find here: http://www.nerdybitches.com/episode-100-live-from-comicpalooza-with-cards-against-humanity/http://www.nerdybitches.com/episode-100-live-from-comicpalooza-with-cards-against-humanity/
Sunday: We had our Women in Podcasting panel, which we hosted. The panel included Mandy from CasterQuest, Miss Jenny Kelley, and Thirsty from Raging Nerds. It was a great panel, and we are looking forward to seeing the video captured by Seale when it is available!
Now, we are exhausted! Heather is going out on assignment for a few weeks to a couple of other conventions. In the meantime, Liz will be joined by guest host Mandy until Heather is back! Look for those episodes coming soon!
Thanks again to the team at Comicpalooza for our third time as part of their official podcasting program. We have a great time every year, and this is definitely our favorite convention! We are already looking forward to next year!
It’s finally here!! In this episode, we are celebrating our 100th episode LIVE from Comicpalooza with Cards Against Humanity!! We also had some very special guests and listeners leave some awesome messages, and you will hear those throughout the live game play. Heather and Liz were back in the same state again, so it only made sense to make this milestone episode something special!
Winner with runners-up
LIVE from Comicpalooza with Cards Against Humanity!
We may have stretched time a little to make this milestone happen when and how it did, but it was totally worth it! Our podcasting room was packed with people sitting along the walls just to watch. A big chunk of the audience played the game WITH us in a tournament-style show down to get to a single winner of our amazing Nerdy Bitches trophy (which is a female body building trophy, in actuality, but the caption on the trophy says it all!). And believe me, they WANTED this trophy. Our reigning champion from 2017 was there to defend his title, even though we told him we wouldn’t take away his trophy.
Who WOULDN’T want this little gem in their trophy case??
The game play was amazing, loud, and a great deal of fun, and we really hope you enjoy. Note: It has been edited to cut out the boring parts while we overexplain the modified rules, people are shuffling cards, and lining up. You are getting the solid action!
We put out an invitation via social media for anyone who wanted to send in a congratulations message, and we have included those soundbites and voicemail messages throughout the show. We love these folks and really appreciate them taking the time to send in a message! If they have a podcast, we are linking it below.
We want to extend a HUGE Thank You to everyone who has participated in making this 100th episode amazing!! Thank you to:
Producer Craig, for always making us sound like we know what we are doing!
OperaMan, for always being a supportive listener and one who provides us with great feedback.
Cult45 Podcast for being awesome brothers-in-arms to our show and to Brandon for acting as bouncer during the show when some idiots got a little rowdy!
And a GIGANTIC thank you to Seale Adams for coming all the way in just to film our little dog and pony show!! We cannot wait to share his videographic genius with all of you via our YouTube Channel when it is completed!
R to L: Heather, Seale, Liz – Live from Comicpalooza with Cards Against Humanity
Thank you to all of our listeners for allowing us to hit this milestone in our podcasting careers. We are looking forward to many more and have some awesome things in the works, so stick around!!
Rate and Review
We are so grateful for anyone who leave a 5-star rating and review in Apple Podcasts. A word of warning – Apple does not allow “offensive language” in their reviews, so if you mention the name of the show, or bitches or whatever, it will eat the review and we will never know your lovely thoughts. I have found that just typing b*tches is more than sufficient to make it past the censors. We would love to hear from you!
In this episode, Liz and Heather took a break from Comicpalooza to sit down with blogger and lifestyle guru, Shasie (Shasie’s World) to talk ALL about Black Panther! We will be focusing on the character of Black Panther, not just the stand-alone movie, so we will be discussing Captain America Civil War, Black Panther, and Avengers: Infinity War with SPOILERS all over the place. Also, please excuse the audio. When recording quickly on-the-go, we had a few slip-ups!
Again, SPOILERS! We sat down with Shasie at Comicpalooza to talk all about the character, Black Panther, and will crossover into the different movies he has been in. We jump right on in and talk about all of the crazy things that happen in all of the movies and what is going to happen during the next group of movies that we know are coming.
We love Black Panther. Period. When he pops up in Civil War in the chase of Winter Soldier, we were surprised and excited. We talk about villians, and how well Marvel is doing at bringing in villians who you can somewhat relate to and can feel (especially Killmonger).
We do jump around to talk about some of the rest of the MCU and had a great time.
In this episode, Heather and Liz dive into another Classic Movie Review: Hook (Listener’s Choice)! This selection came from the listeners in our most active Twitter poll to date! Our choices were Stand and Deliver, Hook, Spider-Man (2002), and Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, based on guests coming to 2018’s Comicpalooza here in Houston! Hook took the victory in the last few minutes, so here we go!!

Sunday, May 27: 2-3 p.m. (Room 352C): Women in Podcasting
We chose Hook as one of the options for our poll based on our favorite character from the movie, Dante Basco, attending the convention this year! You may remember him better as, “RUFIO! RUFIO! ROOF-EEE-OOOOO!” This may come up again 😉
Listen in to our point-by-point review to see if this classic from our teenage years really holds up over time. Also, learn why Tink is clearly the REAL villian of Neverland, and why naming a kid Thud Butt could have life-long consequences and strategic advantages.
After you finish with our show, head on over to visit with Mandy and Xavier at CasterQuest! They cover The Kingkiller Chronicles, Game of Thrones, Erotic Fan Fiction, and if you take a trip in your time machine, you can see Liz guest host on a re-record of episode 11: Doogie Howser and the Rolling Meth Lab! You can find them on Apple Podcasts, SoundCloud, and wherever you find awesome podcasts! You can also catch them on Twitter @casterquest!
Surprise! In this episode, we will be doing our Classic Movie Review: Star Trek: First Contact, in honor of guests Brent Spiner and Levar Burton.Every year, we choose a classic movie to review based on the guests for Comicpalooza. This year, we chose TWO movies to review! We left one selection up to the fans via Twitter poll, and we chose the other.
Classic Movie Review: Star Trek: First Contact
Liz and Heather talk through the movie, discussing what all is happening, along with their thoughts on those goings-on. WARNING: As this is a movie review, it does contain SPOILERS. If you have not see this movie from 1996 and are listening in, that’s on you.
We talk about some of the things we liked and also those sections that just don’t hold up over time. Some may even seem a bit like fan fiction! We give our final thoughts, and answer some Star Trek-related questions sent by our Castaway friends.
Liz also recently guested on both Everything I Learned From Movies with Steve and Izzy to discuss the 90s movie Zeus & Roxanne and all things THE GUTE. She also guest hosted this week on CasterQuest, filling in on a replacement episode (Ep. 11) in their Name of the Wind book club! So make sure to go check out those shows at the links below!

On this episode, Liz and Heather finally tackle all seven original seasons of Gilmore Girls! During another one of our infamous fan-trades, Heather agreed to watch all seven seasons plus the revival. In return, Liz will be watching Game of Thrones, which will be discussed sometime during the summer. Probably. We are only tackling the original series in this episode, as also covering the revival would have put the show around 10 hours. The revival and our final-final thoughts will be released this summer. Stay tuned!!
Big news! We are officially part of the 2018 Comicpalooza Podcast Partnership Program!! Woohoo!! This is the third year in a row for us, and we are SO excited! We have also submitted several panels to host during the convention, so stay tuned for the details on where you can see us LIVE and IN PERSON! Heather will also be returning to Houston from California for the event, so it will be the first time she and Liz will see each other in about six months.
And now… on to the show!
Heather had never seen the series before the fandom swap, and Liz only started watching it in 2016, when the revival was announced. In this episode, we discuss the many relationships that exist within the series. To name a few…
Lorelei and Rory
Emily and Lorelei
Rory and Dean/Jess/Naked Guy/Logan
Lorelei and Max/Digger/Christopher/Luke
ALL of the other characters in Stars Hollow
Rory and Paris
Lorelei and Sookie
During our relationships discussions, we hit a lot of different topics and talk through most of the major plot lines throughout the run of the series. Find out if we love it, hate it, or hate to love it!
This week, we highlight our friends Ashley and Justine over at The Cutaways Podcast!! These ladies are some of our very favorites and we are excited to send some of our love their way! Go check them out wherever you find your quality podcasts!
