Book Club: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Episode 115- BOOK CLUB: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

In this episode, we cover our next installment of the Book Club with Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban! We have a very special guest on this episode; Random Randy Savage of Cult 45 Podcast! It’s also a special occasion because Randy is the first guy to appear as a guest on Nerdy Bitches Podcast! Listen in to see how everything plays out!

Book Club: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Book Club: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

Back in 2017, we decided that we would reread the entirety of the Harry Potter series for the Book Club. We also decided to read and discuss each book as if we have no prior knowledge of what is to come in future books – which is REALLY HARD!! We do our best, but you will see this time we took some liberties in beeping out accidental spoilers… (mostly).

This is the third book in the Harry Potter series. In this one, Harry is going to be starting his third year at Hogwarts, and of course, bad shit happens. Notorious mass murder, Sirius Black, is on the loose… and coming for HARRY!! Shocking, we know. Dementors, childhood grudges, and hijinks all ensue as we roll through this modern-day classic.

Randy has some awesome insights and gets us laughing from the beginning. We were thrilled to have him on the show! Go check him out over on Cult 45: The Movie Podcast… the only podcast that puts hair on your chest. We are sending over our electrolysis bills! You can also check us out on an episode of theirs, where we covered Kill Bill Part 1.

Check out our other Book Club selections!

Trashy to Classy

Episode 114 – Trashy to Classy

In this episode, Heather and Liz look take a look at Trashy to Classy. We review trends that were previously seen a low-class, but are now common and popular. Strap in and see if yours makes our list!

Trashy to Classy

Trashy to Classy

Heather found an excellent article from Cheeseburger.com that was obtained from the geniuses at Reddit to talk about things that are classy now, but used to be trashy. Nerdy Bitches has NOT independently verified this information, but who freaking cares? Some thing are really old (like now only the rich have horses and everyone has cars, but back in the day, that was reversed).

  • Horses vs. Cars?
  • Tiny Houses?
  • Living on the top floor?
  • And SO many more!

Geek Myths vs. Realities

We found an article from 2015 on the top 4 geek myths versus their realities and wanted to talk about and bust these stereotypes, where we could. The article, “Four Common Geek Stereotypes: Myths and Realities” was found HERE. So, strap in and enjoy!

Myth #4: Geeks are super smart, but have no common sense.

Myth #3: Geeks have no social skills.

Myth #2: Geeks are always unattractive and un-atheletic.

Myth #1: Geek culture is sexist.

Let us know if you agree with our discussion and if you can think of more geek stereotypes for us to discuss!

We love doing these movie reviews, and this is the first year that we have actually done one after all of the movies have been released, rather than sometime during the year, where we then have to speculate on what could be. 2018 Movie Review Part 1

We didn’t get around to doing our movie review during 2018, but that kind of worked out for the best. Book Club Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Episode 109 – BOOK CLUB: Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Book Club Red Rising by Pierce BrownIn this episode, it’s time for another BOOK CLUB: Red Rising by Pierce Brown! We apologize for the delay on this one, but it’s worth the wait!

The Summary

(From Amazon, because we suck at writing summaries…)

Darrow is a Red, a member of the lowest caste in the color-coded society of the future. Like his fellow Reds, he works all day, believing that he and his people are making the surface of Mars livable for future generations. Yet he spends his life willingly, knowing that his blood and sweat will one day result in a better world for his children.

But Darrow and his kind have been betrayed. Soon he discovers that humanity reached the surface generations ago. Vast cities and lush wilds spread across the planet. Darrow—and Reds like him—are nothing more than slaves to a decadent ruling class.

Inspired by a longing for justice, and driven by the memory of lost love, Darrow sacrifices everything to infiltrate the legendary Institute, a proving ground for the dominant Gold caste, where the next generation of humanity’s overlords struggle for power.  He will be forced to compete for his life and the very future of civilization against the best and most brutal of Society’s ruling class. There, he will stop at nothing to bring down his enemies . . . even if it means he has to become one of them to do so.

Book Club: Red Rising by Pierce Brown

Liz and Heather discuss the book in detail, including what we liked and what we didn’t. Warning—the book is LONG. Like really long. It was also a little slow to warm up for both of us. But once it got rolling, we dug it. Mostly.

CW Arrowverse News

In our shortest episode to date, we sit down to talk a little about some things that are coming up on the CW Arrowverse shows. This includes some speculations about the Elseworld’s crossover event with Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, etc. We know that we will also get an introduction to Ruby Rose’s Batwoman, so we talk a little about that.

We also talk about a potential cameo that may be in that series, so stay tuned! Elseworlds Crossover begins on December 9, 2018 on The Flash and will continue on each of the subsequent shows, so make sure to check that out!

Liz goes on a very short shark rant…obvs.

The Doctor is in

The Doctor Is In

After watching the season premiere of Doctor Who on October 7th, we had to sit down and discuss our thoughts on the new Doctor and Jodie Whitaker. In the past, we have each had issue with the new actor taking on the role, before eventually (some seriously eventually) coming around and loving them. Did this follow suit for Jodie? Listen in to find out!

We also discuss what we thought about the first episode, and talk though the majority of the plot line and characters, including what will become the new companions.

Finally, we check in with the wardrobe department to talk about the Doctor’s new look, and how it compared to her previous counterparts.

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

Episode 106 – Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

In this episode, we finally get back to Stars Hollow to review the Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life revival. If you missed our review of the original Gilmore Girls series, you can check that out here: http://www.nerdybitches.com/episode-96-gilmore-girls/

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life

When we decided to cover Gilmore Girls for the podcast, we quickly realized that there was no way for us to cover all 8 seasons PLUS the four-part Netflix revival in one show, so we broke it down into the OG series and the revival. In this show, we hit all of the what the fuckery of it all, what our characters have been up to since the series ended, and what in the world is happening with them during this one arbitrary year.

The revival was broken down into four 90-minute shows, Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. We break down each episode to talk about what we liked, what we didn’t, and OMG WHAT IS HAPPENING moments. We follow Emily, Lorelei, and Rory Gilmore through a year to see if any of them have bothered to grow since the OG series ended.

One thing that we both really loved was the fact that this series was developed for Netflix, which meant they could get away with a lot of things that never would have flown with a network. This includes a few choice swear words, which when coming out of the mouth of Emily Gilmore is total life.

We also thoroughly enjoy the spiral downward of always-perfect Rory, who is just annoying in the way everything has always worked out for her.

We also get to check in on all of our favorite characters from the town.
