Wonder Women

Episode 75 – Wonder Women

In this episode, Liz and Heather, along with guest Kim Gordon, talk all about Wonder Women – not just the movie, but also the world of women directors and what we hope for the future! We give a few shout-outs right up front to the people who interacted with our Facebook page on the Name This Movie (with the wrong name) post.

Wonder Women

We aren’t talking about the movie itself, but more about female directors, what this movie means for the industry going forward, and how the movie compared to the two DC movies that were released in 2016.

Costume-wise, we really liked what they did with Wonder Woman in that her armor is fairly realistic and could actually be fought in. She has flat shoes, leather shin guards that go over the knees and are bendable, etc. Her midriff isn’t hanging out, and it isn’t basically satin lingerie like Linda Carter’s Wonder Woman. The attention to detail was spot on! She wasn’t over-sexualized, and that is refreshing.

Rotten Tomatoes ratings on the recent D.C. Movies

  • Batman V. Superman: 27% (critics)
  • Suicide Squad: 25% (critics)
  • Wonder Woman: 92% (critics) [BOOM]

BTW – Dick Smackers is like the worst lip gloss flavor ever.

Female Directors

One of the biggest problems is that when we sit down and try to think of female directors, we could each come up with maybe four, and several of those we can’t even think of their names, we just know the movie. This is a serious problem, especially when one of the biggest female director in the industry can’t be mentioned without saying “ex-wife of James Cameron.” And if a female had two shit movies in a row, you would NEVER hear from them again. Unlike Zac Snyder and is shitstorm of crap movies getting one of the biggest franchises out there.

Episode 46 – DC TV

In this episode, Liz and Heather team up with our new friend Carla (http://www.carlasueinvites.com/) on to talk about D.C. TV! First, she brought us some Classy as Fuck note cards, so we were super excited about that!

DC TV

On to the show…

We wanted to talk about how great D.C. has been doing in the television realm – Way to go, CW! We will mainly discuss Arrow, The Flash, and Gotham, since they are available of Netflix and 2/3 of us don’t have cable. Heather will talk about Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow. Arrow is utterly awesome. We have seen up through Season 3 (thanks, Netflix). It is total binge watching fodder. You will have to stop and watch The Flash once he comes into play because there are a lot of crossover episodes between the two shows. We all have a love for John Barrowman, who has now been cast as Malcolm Merlin in all of the DC television shows.

We pop over to American Gods (the new series coming out) for a bit and drool over the guy playing Shadow. Yum. And Dane Cook will be playing, Robbie, the douchebag, which works perfectly. If you haven’t listened to our Book Club episode on American Gods, go do it! It’s a total freak show, much like the book.

We also take some time to drool over the hot guys in the DC movies and tv shows, because we can.

This past week, Liz and Heather met up with some other Houston-area podcasters to see Batman: The Killing Joke, which we really liked. They did add a big hunk of Batman/Barbara Gordon that wasn’t in the graphic novel that was kind of pathetic.

Next week, we will be having our first ever crossover episode with another podcast! We are teaming up with 1980s Movie Graveyard to do a movie commentary on 1985’s Commando! Make sure you check it out and give the graveyard guys a like!

Episode 38 – Batman v Superman

In this episode, Liz and Heather invite fellow nerdy bitches Ofelia and Eileen back into the studio to discuss Batman v Superman. SPOILERS. SPOILERS. SPOILERS.

Batman v Superman

In our last DC Comics episode, we pretty much called it “DC: Don’t Fuck It Up”, so we are going to work our way through this movie with our girls. First, the movie got pretty terrible reviews, which didn’t really sway us one way or the other because we are going to watch what we want. YOU AREN’T THE BOSS OF ME, CRITICS!!

The general consensus was that they did a good job of pulling from the comics, but may have brought in TOO many elements. It was entertaining, but there were some slow areas and some utter yawns. There is a bit of desperation in this movie. We think that they are trying to Avengers the series without bothering to do the leg work on the back stories.

We all seem to like Batfleck, which had been all of our original concerns, but he did a great job. We were so excited to see Wonder Woman, but she was completely underutilized throughout and just didn’t make any sense. She seemed to be there to keep the whining bitches of Batman and Superman from beating each other to death with their dicks.

We hate Lex Luther. Bad actor and badly performed. Such a colossal pussy. He could have been played a lot more like Tony Stark because Lex is a genius, but in this movie he is just fucking nuts.

Side Note: The new Aquaman is fucking hot. But why is he holding his breath? And why does his trident look like a rake? Is he gardening??

Keep on listening, as we have a lot to say. BECAUSE I’M BATMAN!!!!!

Episode 33 – DC Comics

In this episode, Liz and Heather discuss DC Comics, as a counterpoint to our Marvel episode from 2015. This episode should be called DC – Don’t Fuck it Up.

DC Comics

We talk all about the DC Comics movies, past, present, and current. Heather is a HUGE Batman fan, so she has been waiting to do this episode for a while.

We talk about Deadpool, Batman vs. Superman, and the appearance of Wonder Woman! We also talk about the upcoming Suicide Squad movie that will be coming out later this year.

We talk a bit about the lack of female characters in both the DC and Marvel universes, but we really don’t see a Marvel counterpart to Wonder Woman.

Side note – DC Comics seems to be much darker and gritty and super rapey from time to time (I’m talking to you, Watchmen!). These are dark, but also fairly funny, so we are interested in seeing what comes forth.

Aquaman is also apparently getting his own movie. I’m interested in seeing whether or not he will be the pussy of the Justice League, like in the comics, or if he will actually be an interesting character.

Another side note: You suck, Megan Fox. We hate everything you are in. Always. Eat a cheeseburger, please. And cover yourself, for the love of dog!

DC is really doing great things in the realm of TV shows: Gotham, Supergirl, Arrow, etc. They surpass Marvel, who only has Agents of SHIELD and Agent Carter, both of which are fabulous.
